A Study on the Experience of Loss of Siblings of Victims of Sewol Ferry Disaster - An Interpretation Phenomenological Analysis -

Abstract
|
|
|
This study is an interpretation phenomenological analysis of the loss experience of siblings of the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster. The researcher approached the analytical phenomenological analysis method proposed by Smith et al.(2009) to phenomenologically analyze and describe the contents, structure and results of the loss experience.
The study involved three siblings of the victims and the researchers conducted individual in-depth interviews to collect data.
As a result of the analysis, the major topics which can be said to be the commonality and essence of the victim’s sibling’s loss experience, appeared such as these; ‘An unreliable nation’, ‘the guilt of those who survived’, ‘an arrow of criticism covering the sky’, ‘disappearance of everyday life’, ‘disconnection from the outside world’, ‘a wandering wing broken bird’, ‘exhaustion of sorrow’, ‘a swamp of human oblivion’, ‘self-healing through fact-finding’, ‘cruel memories of April’.
Finally, based on the results of the study, the researcher reiterated the need to find out the truth to restore the victims’ national trust and fully heal the victims.
